PARISH LOGO Our Church is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and our logo which reflects the face of the Sacred Heart was designed by Fr. Charles O'Malley, a former Parish Priest.

OUR VISION STATEMENT Our Parish vision statement is “a place of prayer, hospitality and support”, we hope that this is what you will experience as you become part of our community.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT We, the people of Sacred Heart Parish, accept as our mission -

To know our faith

To live by truth and love

To serve the needs of others

To teach by example

To foster a spirit of genuine welcome and hospitality for the benefit of all.

We will share the gifts that God has entrusted to us by using our time, talent, and treasure in the service of our brothers and sisters, and thereby strengthen and inspire the Parish family.

PARISH HISTORYSacred Heart parish was officially established and cut off from Queens Park in 1959. Fr Ernest Rogers was appointed the first Parish Priest in March 1959, where for 11 years he dedicated his life to setting up the school and Parish. The second Parish Priest was Fr Lawrence Eivers, who was appointed in 1970, but died suddenly on 14th October 1979. The Norbertine Fathers from Queens Park took over the duties of the Parish Priest until Fr Charles O’Malley was appointed in March 1980. Fr O’Malley was a dedicated catalyst in the on-going development of the parish and the success of the new Church at Ovens Road, Thornlie. The site at Ovens Road was large enough to bring together on one site, the Church, the Presbytery, a two-stream primary school, a Parish centre, a pre-primary school and sporting/parking facilities. The opening of the new Church was on 9th February 1992. In 2000, Fr Charles O’Malley resigned after suffering a major stroke. In May, Fr Patrick Lim was appointed Parish Priest and the Parish Pastoral Council was reformed. In 2004 Fr John Thornhill was invited to reside at the Presbytery with Fr Patrick Lim and they both worked on the production of the Emmaus Series on Evangelisation. In 2005, Fr Patrick Lim’s was appointed Parish Priest of Kalamunda and the Parish of Thornlie was blessed with the appointment of the Parish Priest Monsignor Timothy Corcoran who continued until 24th January 2018. (after 12 years as Parish Priest, Monsignor Timothy Corcoran retired). Father Minh-Thuy Nguyen was appointed as our new Parish Priest on 24th January 2018.

SCHOOL LOGO -The school crest was designed by the Loreto Sisters and reflects the unity of the Trinity, which is reflected in family and school. The movement is directed upwards in praise of God from whom all good things come.

SCHOOL MOTTO The school motto was developed at the same time and illustrates from scripture the school’s name – the Sacred Heart of Jesus: GOD IS LOVE - And anyone who lives in love, lives in God and God in that person (1 John 4:16).

SCHOOL HISTORY - The Loreto Sisters founded Sacred Heart School in 1965. Initially the school as situated at Tonbridge Way and operated as a single stream school. During the early 80’s it was evident that the school would not be able to cope with the increased enrolments due to development in the area. The decision was made to move to our present site to accommodate a double stream school.

At the beginning of 1988 the Junior Primary classes were established and by 1994 the school had grown to a full double stream from Pre-Primary to Year Seven with a Special Education Centre. Four year old Kindergarten commenced in 1997. Three year old Kindergarten and before and after school care began in 2006 and a purpose built K3 room and child care facility was opened in 2008. As part of Catholic Education Policy, Year Six is now the final enrolment year at Sacred Heart. The school currently has an enrolment of approximately 450 students.
